“MAKING THE UNSEEN SEEN”

“The back is often the silent, forgotten carrier of our identity- a part of the body that remains invisible yet tells a profound story of strength, vulnerability, and imperfection. Making the unseen seen- seeks to make the unseen visible, placing the back at the forefront of design and challenging the traditional narrative that prioritizes the front-facing view. It began with an admiration for tailoring , where I started researching body postures. This showed how expressive our back truly is. Especially the body with scoliosis—a condition where the spine curves sideways into an “S” or “C” shape, uniquely influencing posture and movement. Rooted in over 20 interviews with women living with scoliosis, this collection translates their physical and emotional realities into a visual language of fabric, form, and texture. The designs do not aim to “fix” the body, but rather to honor its diversity, complexity, and authenticity. By focusing on the back, the collection challenges conventional perspectives, encouraging the viewer to see beyond the surface and embrace the beauty of imperfection. Designed for all bodies, -Making the unseen seen- is inclusive and thought-provoking, inviting a deeper connection with the garments and the stories they tell. It encourages a shift in focus.
